Liz Wisdom

What do you do at Design Engine?

Graphic design, web design, social media images and print. If something needs to be made for marketing or in-house, I’m the gal you go to.

What is your educational background?

After recieving an associates in criminal justice from St. Louis Community College, I went to Webster University for a BA where I majored in psychology and minored in philosophy. I then had one of those life changing moments where I realized that was not what I wanted to do, so I decided to pursue a BA in graphic and web design before coming to work at DE.

What are your work experiences?

I have 2 years at DE as their digital designer and 7 years doing freelance graphic design.

What is your favorite quote?

“With great power comes great responsibility.” – Stan Lee

What is your favorite Chicago spot / event / thing to do?

I really love to go to the Art Institute and walk around for hours. The Ivan Albright stuff is my absolute favorite there. He’s so detailed and his work is super grotesque but utterly facinating. It’s hyper surrealism at it’s finest and the juxtaposition between the macabe and ultra bright colors really make my mind melt.

Favorite industry resources?

I use Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign for projects. Unsplash is my favorite place to grab stock photos from. I use Google Fonts and Adobe Typekit for font selections.

Favorite internet meme?

How would you explain Digital Design in three sentences or less to an 8-year old?

It’s about making things look appealing but also make sense at the same time. You solve problems for the client by telling a story with pictures, color, text and placement.

If someone wrote a biography about you, what will the title of the book be?

I’ve Been Everywhere Man – Not the Johnny Cash Story

Other Interests

Comics, painting, reading, philosophy, everything that is the A Song of Ice and Fire series, Kung Fu, David Bowie, making textile surface repeat patterns, sewing, and listening to podcasts.
